Is rafting a dangerous sport?

Rafting is not like boating. It is an adventure sport. Choose your operator wisely. Ensure that they follow all safety protocols like having licensed guides, good quality equipment and a safety kayaker. If all these are properly complied with, rafting is only as dangerous as crossing the road. At Camp Ganga Riviera we are very concerned about the safety of our guests. Every rating trip is accompanied by a rescue kayaker.


How safe is rafting in rishikesh?

The river Ganga in Rishikesh is one of the safest rivers for rafting in India. It is also known as a pool and drop river which means after every white water rapid there is a long calm section. This is great for people who just want to enjoy the experience and have gaps between the big action of crossing rapids. It also helps in rescue if people pop out of rafts when crossing a rapid.


I don't know how to swim - can i do rafting?

Knowledge of swimming is not a requirement for river rafting. Every rafter is provided with a life jacket that will keep you afloat and safe.


What should I wear for a white water rafting trip?

Do not dress in sarees, jeans, heavy clothes or clothes that wrap around your body. While rafting wear light, quick drying clothes. Shorts and quick dry shirts are ideal if you aren't feeling cold.


What kind of footwear do I use during rafting?


The best footwear for rafting would be strap on sandals in a waterproof synthetic fabric or river sandals/ floaters. Ensure that your footwear is light, water proof or quick drying and secured to your feet. Avoid footwear that is heavy and/or leather. Heels are also unadvisable. Footwear that easily comes off is to be avoided.




Can you wear glasses while?


It is advisable to avoid wearing glasses or spectacles during rafting. However if it is unavoidable then It would be advisable to secure your glasses around your face with spectacle holders/retainer straps. (Available on Amazon)


Can i go rafting with contact lenses?

wearing contact lenses are not recommended because you can be tossed around when navigating a rapid and there is a good chance they might pop-out.



Can pregnant women do Water rafting?

White Water Rafting is not advisable for pregnant women.


Is it possible to go white water rafting with babies & toddlers?

Rafting is not allowed for toddlers, babies or infants. Rafting is only allowed for persons between the ages 14 to 60.


Can we go rafting with our pets?

Rafting is not allowed for dogs or any other pets.


Rafting with disabilities?

Rafting with disabilities may be possible depending upon the issue in particular and the discretion of your river guide. Please discuss with us before you make a booking.


Rafting with asthma?

Rafting may be allowed for persons suffering from mild asthma. It is mandatory to inform your river guide of your condition and depends on his/her discretion.
